On Saturday 24 June 2000, the Olympic torch came through Home Hill on its way to Sydney 2000. Home Hill elder, Bill Lucas, who was part of the torch relay for the Olympics in Melbourne in 1956, was one of the runners on this occasion too.

The flame, lit in Athens, is passed from runner to runner.

Bill sets off on his run. The flame is alight, though hard to see in the midday sun. The flame is heading north before making its way south to the Games venue in Sydney in September.
